Taynton by the Beach..... - My Food Journey

A Blog about good food, flavours and fun

Taynton by the Beach…..

Taynton by the Beach…..

Here in Invermere, we have our first very own craft distillery, Taynton Bay Spirits.  They have asked me to take a look at developing some recipes using their products and Taynton by the Beach is my first cocktail effort!

My good old guest blogger, Mike, did help out with the developing and taste testing (surprise, surprise) so he does get some of the credit/blame.  We couldn’t agree on sweet or spicy so we have two drinks to share with you.  Taynton by the Beach is our sweet cocktail and Taynton Bay Pickled Vodka with Spicy Sangrita is our spicy effort.  Let us know which one you prefer!

It is interesting to see craft distilleries here in British Columbia doing what craft beer has already done.  Taynton Bay Spirits produces Vodka, Gin and Gringo’s Revenge.  The latter is a tequila inspired liquor that is not tequila!  Mexico is very proprietary about the word tequila (or any variation on that so we don’t want to be getting anybody in trouble!)  They also have flavour infused spirits.  Raspberry Vodka, Pickled Vodka, Sweet Orange Bitters and Hibiscus Bitters.  Finally, they also offer some cinnamon infused Sinferno to warm you up all winter long.

Taynton Bay Spirits opened in April, 2017 and can already be found in over 60 private liquor stores across British Columbia!  One of the things I really like about Taynton Bay Spirits is that the flavoured vodkas are naturally infused. In the case of the Raspberry Vodka — vodka infused with actual raspberry.  Super simple and natural.

Taynton Bay Spirits

We wanted to use the flavoured vodkas developed by Taynton Bay Spirits to make our drinks a little bit unique.  See Taynton Bay Pickled Vodka with Spicy Sangrita if you want to get warmed from the inside out.  Even though it is the middle of winter here in Canada, or maybe because it is, I developed Taynton By the Beach Cocktail.  I used the Taynton Bay Spririts Raspberry Vodka.  Baby, it is cold outside, so let’s mix up a Taynton By the Beach!  Find an umbrella to put in it and pretend we are in a blue water, white sand destination……
